Hart House Farm team receives Friends of the Credit Conservation Award

The Hart House Farm, a 150-acre rural landscape and outdoor education space managed by the University of Toronto's Hart House, has been recognized with a Friends of the Credit Conservation Award in the category of diversity, equity and inclusion leadership.

The awards are presented annually by Credit Valley Conservation to recognize the accomplishments of individuals, groups and organizations who are making a positive impact in the Credit River Watershed.

The Hart House Farm team's award was an acknowledgement of work undertaken by Liat Margolis, an associate professor in U of T's John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, to address the impacts of European buckthorn, an invasive woody shrub, in collaboration with Credit Valley Conservation and the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Initiatives include an Indigenous, youth-led volunteer event held the past two summers, co-hosted with Nikibii Dawadinna Giigwag, a land-based program.

Located in the Niagara Escarpment – within the Treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit – Hart House Farm is a space for community, wellness and land-based learning, as well as a site for Indigenous students to share in ceremony and knowledge.
