Daniel Drucker, a senior investigator at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health and University Professor of medicine in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, and Andrew Boozary, an assistant professor in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, have received 2026 Governor General’s Innovation Awards.
Presented by the Rideau Hall Foundation, the Governor General’s Innovation Awards recognize individuals, teams and organizations whose innovations are transformative and have a positive impact on quality of life in Canada.
Drucker was recognized for discoveries related to glucagon-like peptides, including GLP-1 and GLP-2, and for advancing therapies for diabetes, obesity and intestinal failure. His work has helped advance treatments that reduce complications associated with chronic metabolic disorders, including kidney disease, stroke and cardiovascular disease.
Boozary, who is executive director of the Gattuso Centre for Social Medicine at the University Health Network, was recognized for developing Dunn House, Canada’s first hospital-led social medicine housing initiative. The initiative brought together health care, community and government partners to create supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness and to address housing as a determinant of health.
