Sheena Josselyn recognized with Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize

Sheena Josselyn, a senior scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and University Professor in the Faculty of Arts & Science's department of psychology and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine's department of physiology, has been recognized with the 2025 Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize.

Awarded by the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Medicine, the annual prize is valued at $50,000 and recognizes a Canadian scientist or physician for outstanding contributions to the treatment, amelioration or cure of brain disorders.

Josselyn, who holds a Canada Research Chair in Memory Function and Dysfunction, was honoured for discoveries that have advanced our understanding of memory formation and function. She is credited with providing the first scientific proof for the existence of engrams – groups of neurons responsible for storing memories – with implications for the treatment of an array of disorders ranging from Alzheimer's disease to schizophrenia.

"With extraordinary ingenuity and scientific vision, she has reshaped the global neuroscience landscape and continues to lead the field with her contributions," UBC Medicine stated in a press release.
