Sean Rourke recognized with inaugural Eric Jackman Prize by Royal Society of Canada

Sean Rourke, a scientist in the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael's Hospital, Unity Health Toronto and professor of psychiatry in the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine, has been recognized with the Royal Society of Canada (RSC)'s inaugural Eric Jackman Prize in the Human Behavioural and Social Sciences.

Established in 2025, the Eric Jackman Prize recognizes path-breaking scientific contributions to preventing harm, strengthening resilience or otherwise benefiting humankind through research in one or more behavioural and social science fields.  

A renowned clinical neuropsychologist, Rourke's research on the neurobehavioural impacts of HIV has transformed brain health diagnosis and care.

His efforts to advance new rapid testing options and advancing treatment and access to care for underserved populations is credited with helping eliminate health disparities and tackling Canada's HIV epidemic.
