Ronald Buliung recognized with Edward L. Ullman Award

Ronald Buliung, a professor in the department of geography, geomatics and environment at the University of Toronto Mississauga, has received the 2026 Edward L. Ullman Award presented by the Transportation Geography Specialty Group (TGSG) of the Association of American Geographers.

The award recognizes scholars who have made exceptional contributions to transportation geography.

Buliung is honoured for a body of scholarship spanning travel behaviour, the mobility of children and families and geographies of disability and ableism, with a focus on accessibility and equity in everyday transportation systems.

“This recognition speaks to Professor Buliung’s leadership in transportation geography and planning and to the power of collaborative, interdisciplinary research to influence policy and improves lives,” said France Gagnon, vice-principal, research and innovation at U of T Mississauga. “His work reflects the mission of our university: advancing knowledge that strengthens communities and shapes better futures.”

"Sometimes, the most important research questions can be found very close to home; none of this work would have been possible without my youngest daughter, who has taught me – through our journey together – to think about and advocate for accessible cities," said Buliung.
