Four U of T community members recognized with Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards

Four members of the University of Toronto community have been honoured with 2025 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards presented by Canadian Immigrant magazine, in partnership with Western Union.
The awards recognize inspirational immigrants who are making a positive impact in their communities. Recipients span community advocates, volunteers, entrepreneurs and cultural icons.
The honorees from the U of T community are:
- Catherine Chandler-Crichlow – The dean of U of T's School of Continuing Studies, Chandler-Crichlow, who is from Trinidad and Tobago, was recognized for her efforts to support adult learners in their educational and career goals. She obtained a PhD from U of T.
- Peizhong Peter Wang – A professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Wang came to Canada from China after completing medical school. He is a renowned epidemiologist and public health leader whose work has shaped research, policy and immigrant well-being.
- Sandra Yeung Racco – An alum of the Faculty of Music, Yeung Racco, who was born in Hong Kong, served five terms as a councillor for the City of Vaughan and is the longest-serving female Asian politician in York Region. She now runs a government consulting firm as well as the mentoring organization Empowering YouR Vision.
- Shivani Gupta – Gupta, who emigrated from India as a teenager and earned a bachelor of business administration from U of T, is a business leader, entrepreneur and volunteer. She is a director at Crown Group of Hotels and Prudent Law, and serves on the board of the Canada India Foundation.
