Elden Elmanto receives Sloan Research Fellowship

Elden Elmanto, an assistant professor in the department of computer and mathematical sciences at U of T Scarborough and the department of mathematics in the Faculty of Arts & Science, has been named a 2026 Sloan Research Fellow.

The fellowship honours early-career researchers whose creativity, innovation and research accomplishments make them stand out as the next generation of leaders.

Elmanto was recognized for his work bridging algebraic geometry and algebraic topology. His research focuses on a program proposed by Fields Medalist Vladimir Voevodsky; in a series of recent papers, Elmanto and his collaborators successfully proved 11 of Voevodsky’s 17 conjectures, providing the global mathematical community with powerful new instruments to study mathematical shapes.

Elmanto plans to use the US$75,000 prize to foster a research community at U of T Scarborough by supporting postdocs and graduate students.

"Math cannot exist without humans," says Elmanto. "It’s about building the community."
