U of T to cheer on Canada with soccer watch parties on Front Campus

The University of Toronto is bringing the “beautiful game” to Front Campus this month with free outdoor watch parties for all three of Canada’s group-stage matches at international soccer’s showpiece event.

Fans can take in the games live on a giant, 34-foot-wide outdoor screen while Canada’s squad attempts to make history on home turf.

Canada plays Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on June 12 at 3 p.m. The next two games, played in Vancouver, are against Qatar on June 18 at 6 p.m. and Switzerland on June 24 at 3 p.m. (all times eastern).

“We’re thrilled for Toronto – and Canada – to be at the centre of the soccer world this summer and excited to be hosting these watch parties,” said U of T President Melanie Woodin. “Everyone is welcome – so bring your friends, your family, your energy and passion and together, let’s make this an unforgettable campus experience.”

A water truck will be available for refillable bottles and spectators are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages to the all-ages gathering. Further details about the festivities, to be held rain or shine, and calendar links are available here.

Those planning to attend the watch parties – as well those coming to Front Campus for spring convocation ceremonies and other events – are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time. Road closures, traffic restrictions and increased congestion are expected across Toronto throughout the tournament.
