Heather McFarlane recognized by Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences

Heather McFarlane, an assistant professor of cell and systems biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science, has earned the New Investigator Award from the Canadian Society for Molecular Biosciences (CSMB).

The award recognizes outstanding research accomplishment in biochemistry or molecular or cellular biology and is awarded to researchers with 10 or fewer years of experience.

The McFarlane Lab explores how plants sense and respond to cell-wall changes, which can enable cell-wall engineering, a critical step in developing products such as renewable biomass for food, materials and energy.

McFarlane’s has previously been named Canada Research Chair in Plant Cell Biology, and has been recognized by accolades such as an Ontario Early Researcher Award and the Dorothy Shoichet Women Faculty in Science Award of Excellence.
