Four U of T faculty members receive Connaught Mid-Career Researcher Awards

Four University of Toronto faculty members have been recognized with Connaught Mid-Career Researcher Awards for 2025-26.
The annual awards support mid-career researchers who are leading significant and innovative research, with the goal of boosting their competitiveness for large-scale external research funding.
The recipients of 2025-26 Connaught Mid-Career Researcher Awards are:
- Cendri Hutcherson, department of psychology, U of T Scarborough – New approaches for understanding goal achievement and mental well-being: building a sustainable multimodal “digital life” research platform
- D. Luke Mahler, department of ecology and evolutionary biology, Faculty of Arts & Science – Evolutionary opportunity and the richness of ecological communities
- Rob Ness, department of biology, U of T Mississauga – Does perfect DNA repair come at a cost?
- Nicolas Papernot, Edward S. Rogers Sr. department of electrical and computer engineering, Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering – Machine learning algorithms and regulatory mechanisms for the governance of safe artificial intelligence
