7 Faculty of Arts & Science scholars receive Dean's Research Excellence Awards

Seven faculty members from the University of Toronto's Faculty of Science have been recognized with 2025 Dean's Research Excellence Awards

The annual awards, now in their fourth year, are designed to celebrate significant and sustained research achievement by mid-career researchers and help position them for success in national awards competitions.

“I extend my congratulations to these outstanding scholars. Their research reflects not only exceptional rigour and creativity, but also a deep commitment to advancing knowledge that shapes our world,” said Stephen Wright, interim dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science.

The recipients of the 2025 Dean's Research Excellence Awards are:

Susan Antebi, professor, department of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American studies

Marsha Chechik, professor and Bell University Laboratory Chair in Software Engineering, department of computer science

Max Friesen, professor and graduate chair, department of anthropology

John Stinchcombe, distinguished professor, department of ecology and evolutionary Biology and director, Koffler Scientific Reserve.

Mark Taylor, professor, department of chemistry

Ian Williams, professor, department of English and director, MA in English in the Field of Creative Writing

Victoria Wohl, distinguished professor, department of classics
