17 faculty members elected Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada

Seventeen faculty members from the University of Toronto have been appointed Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada – a prestigious distinction given to the country’s most distinguished scholars, artists and scientists.

“The election of these outstanding University of Toronto scholars to the Royal Society of Canada is a testament to the significance of their contributions and the influence of their work,” said Leah Cowen, U of T’s vice-president, research and innovation, and strategic initiatives. “Through discovery, creativity and mentorship, they are advancing knowledge in ways that benefit society and inspire future generations.”

The 2026 Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada from U of T are:

• Aneil Agrawal of the department of ecology and evolutionary biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science
• Elspeth Brown of the department of historical studies at U of T Mississauga
• Peter Burns of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the department of medical biophysics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine
• William Cunningham of the department of psychology in the Faculty of Arts & Science
• Laura Dawson of the University Health Network and the department of radiation oncology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine
• David James Fleet of the department of computer and mathematical sciences at U of T Scarborough
• Mark Fox of the department of mechanical and industrial engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering
• Carl Knappett of the department of art history in the Faculty of Arts & Science
• John Marshall of Unity Health Toronto and the department of surgery in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine
• Naomi Nagy of the department of linguistics in the Faculty of Arts & Science
• Linda Rabeneck of the department of medicine in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine
• Walid Saleh of the department for the study of religion in the Faculty of Arts & Science
• Jan Seuntjens of the University Health Network and the department of radiation oncology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine
