This year, we’re inviting the community to see U of T’s spaces in a new light. More than bricks and mortar, our campuses are living expressions of nearly 200 years of history, innovation and community—not to mention some fantastic places to shop and eat.

Here’s how the adventure works:

  • Each month, participants receive a clue leading to a location tied to our Defy Gravity campaign.

  • At the location, they’ll find a QR code. Snap a selfie, submit it through the Microsoft form, and be entered to win a prize. (Please note this contest is only open to those with a UTORid.)

  • By submitting, participants agree their photo may be featured in an upcoming tri-campus newsletter.

First stop: U of T Bookstores (Contest closes Jan. 31, 2026)

When the cold sets in, the U of T Bookstore is the perfect place to cozy up with a new read—or stock up on warm fleece. But here’s the twist: at each campus (UTSG, UTSC and UTM) bookstore, a mystery book titled Sparking Creativity and Culture (a nod to one of our Defy Gravity campaign priorities) is hidden among the shelves.

Hidden among the bookshelves at each campus bookstore is a book titled Sparking Creativity and Culture.

Inside this hollowed-out book, you’ll find two things:

  •  A 25 per cent discount coupon for general merchandise in the store (some exclusions apply).
  • A QR code to submit your selfie and enter to win a set of U of T mittens and a U of T toque and University of Toronto: The Campus Guide (Second Edition), a beautifully photographed and illustrated book that invites readers to discover U of T’s distinctive architecture and neighbouring institutions through eleven self-guided walks.

The game in a nutshell:

  1. Visit any U of T Bookstore across the tri-campus.
  2. Find Sparking Creativity and Culture  in the math textbook section.
  3. Snap a selfie and use the QR code inside the book to submit your entry.
  4. One entry per person, per campus.
  5. Winners will be selected randomly at the end of January.
